The teaser of Naveen Kasturia and Mouni Roy’s upcoming spy-thriller series, Salakaar was unveiled by the makers on Monday. Directed by Faruk Kabir, the series is inspired by real events and follows a spymaster who discovers the existence of a top-secret nuclear facility in Pakistan. It also stars Mukesh Rishi and Surya Sharma in pivotal roles.
The teaser gives a brief glimpse into the show where Naveen plays the spy and is sent on a mission to Pakistan. He meets top officials in Pakistan in order to extract information and is seen fighting and shooting along with being tortured at one point. Mouni appears briefly in the teaser wearing a sari and it isn’t clear what her character is about.
As per a press release, “The show is set across two timelines - 1978 and 2025 where old enemies resurface, and the past threatens to destroy the present. The series is a blend of history and suspense, making intelligence its biggest arsenal.”
Speaking about the film, Naveen said that shooting for the show was challenging. “Character-wise, portraying an individual of such astuteness and constant alertness, while living with the imminent danger of being an undercover operative in a foreign land, was a unique experience. One misstep could mean capture or worse. Physically, it was my first foray into action, making it incredibly demanding.”
Mouni added, “Joining Salakaar was an opportunity to explore a world unlike any I’ve stepped into before. The narrative’s intensity and emotional layers demanded that I push myself to new heights as an artist. What struck me most was the script’s ability to weave political suspense with very personal, intimate moments. Every scene required careful attention to nuance and depth, which made the experience deeply rewarding.”
The series is produced by Sphereorigins and Mahir Films. It was earlier set to be released on August 15 but will be premiering now on JioHotstar a week prior on August 8.
