Ranveer Singh headliner action-drama Dhurandhar is performing well at the box office. After a first day net collection of Rs 27 crore, the Aditya Dhar directorial jumped to Rs 33 crore on Saturday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. It’s total collection, hence, stands at Rs 59 crore.
On its second day, the film recorded an overall 39.63 per cent occupancy in theatres, with morning shows at 17.26 per cent, afternoons at 35.46 per cent, evenings at 42.65 per cent, and night shows peaking at 63.16 per cent. Dhurandhar reported its highest occupancy in Pune at 49.50 per cent.
Currently, the film is the third highest opener of the year, only behind Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2. Ranveer’s previous film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani collected Rs 11.1 crore on its opening day, Rs 16.05 crore on day two, and eventually amassed around Rs 153.55 crore in India. In comparison, Dhurandhar has been demonstrating stronger numbers and a sharper upward trend at the box office.
Stil, despite the commercial achievements, the film has had divisive reviews from critics. CE’s take on the film read: “Dhurandhar blends the elements of a spy-thriller and an epic gangster saga. The result is a film which is always pregnant with promise but never delivers. At a run-time of 3. 5 hours (longest since 2008's Jodhaa Akbar), the film sometimes hits but often misses on the engagement meter.”
The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan in pivotal roles.
