Ranveer Singh’s latest release, Dhurandhar, has kicked off its box-office journey with a staggering Rs 28.60 crore on opening day. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film has registered the biggest Day 1 haul of Ranveer’s career, both in India and worldwide, surpassing the Rs 21.50 crore debut of Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara.
Breaking expectations by a massive amount, Dhurandhar has collected over Rs 32 crore gross in India. While many predicted that the film would earn between Rs 15 to Rs 18 crore on the first day, the film has emerged strongly thanks to the anticipation surrounding the film and its story.
By achieving these numbers, the spy thriller has surpassed Ranveer's previous hits Padmaavat (Rs 24 crore) and Simmba (Rs 20.72 crore). Chhaava and Animal still remain the highest grossers in terms of opening day earnings with Rs 31 crore and Rs 64 crore respectively.
Dhurandhar follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative, who infiltrates Pakistan's underworld at the behest of an Indian spymaster.
The cast of the film also includes Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal of the ISI. Sara Arjun makes her debut as a lead, after being part of several projects as a child actor.
Upon release, the film was received with mixed reviews, but was praised for the lead actors' performances. Our CE review of the film read, "Dhurandhar blends the elements of a spy-thriller and an epic gangster saga. The result is a film which is always pregnant with promise but never delivers. At a run-time of 3. 5 hours (longest since 2008's Jodhaa Akbar), the film sometimes hits but often misses on the engagement meter."
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar is also getting a sequel, which is slated for release on March 19, 2026.
