Dhanush and Kriti Sanon's latest romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein has knocked off its first major milestone at the box office. After opening with Rs 16.50 crore on November 28, the Aanand L Rai-directorial saw massive footfall on its first weekend, earning the film Rs 17 crore on Saturday and Rs 18.75 crore on Sunday. Although Monday saw a drastic dip of Rs 22 lakh, according to Sacnilk, Tere Ishk Mein has comfortably crossed the Rs 50 crore mark across India by then, minting Rs 51.97 crore.
Tere Ishk Mein marked Dhanush's highest opening in his Bollywood career as Raanjhanaa (2013) opened at Rs 5.60 crore while Atrangi Re (2021) was a direct OTT release. While the film released in both Hindi and Tamil languages owing to Dhanush's strong presence in both languages, the Hindi version collected maximum revenue (Rs 15.25 crore on Friday, Rs 16.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 18 crore on Sunday)
The film stars Dhanush as Shankar, who develops a relationship with Mukti (Kriti) while she conducts her PhD research on him. After she ends the relationship and moves on, Shankar joins the Indian Air Force, and years later their unresolved past resurfaces when they meet again.
Upon release, the film was met with mixed reviews. Our CE review of the film read, "Tere Ishk Mein seems like a desperate attempt by director Anand L Rai and writers Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav to rope-in the fans of Raanjhanaa (2013). The film has all the elements to make it box-office proof: an alpha male protagonist, a war with Pakistan and also an IAS attempt. If Animal, Fighter and 12th Fail walk into a bar, Tere Ishk Mein is the hangover. It is a film which brazenly takes questionable stances for seventy per cent of its runtime and then suddenly tries to get on the right side."
Tere Ishk Mein, which has music by AR Rahman, marks the third collaboration between the Dhanush and Aanand, after Ranjhanaa (2013) and Atrangi Re (2021). This is the first time Kriti is joining forces, both with the actor and the director.
