Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s North meets South rom-com Param Sundari is going steady at the box office. The Tushar Jalota directorial opened with Rs 7.25 crore and its collections rose to Rs 9.25 crore on Saturday. The film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 16.5 crore, as per Sacnilk.com.

Param Sundari had the highest theatrical occupancy in Bengaluru (40.75 per cent), followed by Chennai at 36.50 per cent and Jaipur at 20 per cent. Mumbai and National Capital Region (NCR) are at 16.25 per cent and 18.5 per cent, respectively. Night shows had the most takers for the film with show occupancy of 25.11 per cent, followed by evening (19.70 per cent), afternoon (18.03 per cent) and morning shows at 9.67 per cent.

The film also features Sanjay Kapoor, Renji Panicker, Manjot Singh and has a special appearance by Abhishek Banerjee.

Param Sundari might be faring decently at the box office but it received mixed reviews from critics. Our take on the film read: “Param Sundari is essentially a straightforward Bollywood rom-com where boy meets girl, but society won’t let them marry. It’s budget DDLJ with an ‘explore Kerala’ rather than ‘explore Europe’ agenda. For all its comical tirades of not generalising the South, the film’s visual grammar makes a Kerala hamlet look no different than a Tamil Nadu village. It’s amusing to witness a product of the Hindi film industry, historically known for stereotyping the South, trying to teach viewers the difference between a Rajinikanth and a Mohanlal. Cinema lovers in the Hindi belt have been consuming Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam films, albeit dubbed, even before the term Pan-India was coined.”
