Param Sundari box office: Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Param Sundari has earned Rs 7.25 crore at the box office on Day 1. Directed by Tushar Jalota, the film also stars Manjot Singh, Renji Panicker, and Sanjay Kapoor in pivotal roles.
The film saw an overall occupancy of 12.92% on August 29 with morning shows amounting to 8.19%, afternoon shows at 11.45% while evening and night shows getting 12.27% and 19.77% respectively.
Param Sundari tells the story of a guy from Delhi, Param, falling in love with Sundari who hails from Kerala. The film’s songs, especially ‘Pardesiya’ sung by Sonu Nigam, saw a lot of buzz pre-release. The film also received some flak for Janvhi’s casting as a south-Indian with the actor’s Malayalam accent and stereotypical portrayal getting criticised from people in Kerala.
Additionally, the film was also compared to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Chennai Express, owing to similarities in the story. Janhvi defended the film during a recent interview, saying, “It’s a different milieu altogether, and it’s not like that this is a repetitive thing at all. 2 States was similar, but it came before Chennai Express, and these kinds of films aren’t being released every year. Anyways people aren’t comparing us to something that needs to be forgotten, Chennai Express was an iconic film, with iconic characters and actors.”
The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
CE’s review of the film reads, “Amongst other drawbacks, the film suffers the most from taking up an unoriginal, dated idea. The North-South romance has been explored before, both cutely and comically, in films like 2 States (2014) and Chennai Express (2013). Param Sundari offers nothing more than a reheated dish. It can’t even rely on the screen presence and acting prowess of its leads. Sidharth and Janhvi are pleasing to look at, but they don’t exactly crackle. It isn’t a sure-shot that two individuals having biological advantages can ensure chemistry.”
