Actor Anupam Kher took to social media on Friday, on the occasion of Independence Day, to share his first look as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in the upcoming film The Bengal Files. The film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is third in his ‘Files Trilogy’, which consists of The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022).
In a monochrome photo, shared by Kher on Instagram, he can be seen wearing white, khadi overalls, holding a stick. “Some roles change your thoughts, your habits, your inner self. Playing #GandhiJi is one such role. Sharing it with you all for the first time my character from @vivekagnihotri’s #TheBengalFiles! No prosthetics was used here! Jai Hind!” he captioned the post.
The trailer of The Bengal Files is scheduled to release on Saturday (August 16) and the launch event will be held in Kolkata. Director Vivek will visit symbolic landmarks like Kalighat and Shahid Minar as part of the promotional activities, highlighting the film’s connection to the city and its historical context.
The film will revisit the chilling events of Direct Action Day and the 1946 Calcutta killings. Another poster was also shared by the makers featuring a woman as Goddess Durga.
