The teaser of Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher’s upcoming film The Bengal Files was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it also stars Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar and Simratt Kaur in pivotal roles.

The teaser has a sentimental feel to it, as it opens with a voiceover of a Kashmiri pandit as he claims that Bengal is turning into another Kashmir. Then the teaser introduces all the characters. Darshan plays Shiva Pandit, Mithun is introduced as a Madman, Anupam plays Mohandas Gandhi and Pallavi plays Maa Bharati. There are visuals of bloodied faces, of men holding weapons and a woman screaming. A text comes on screen: If Kashmir hurt you, Bengal will haunt you.

The film was recently re-titled as The Bengal Files. It was earlier titled The Delhi Files-- Bengal Chapter. Another teaser was unveiled earlier which featured Mithun reading the preamble of India’s constitution.

The Bengal Files is the third part of the trilogy of films that include, The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files. The film is produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi and will be released in theatres on September 5.

Vivek’s films have earlier been criticised for showing a manipulated version of truth and his cinema is often considered propagandist. His 2022 film The Kashmir Files, based on the plight of Kashmiri Hindus during the 1990 militancy, was subject to a lot of debates and controversies.
