
Farhan Akhtar’s debut directorial Dil Chahta Hai (2001) completed 24 years of its release on Sunday. The film, which marked a new wave in Hindi cinema, starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preeti Zinta and Dimple Kapadia.
The film’s production house Excel Entertainment took to Instagram on Sunday to share a montage of scenes from the film and captioned the post, “24 years, countless rewatches, endless memories. Here’s to the film that made us believe every gang needs a Goa plan. #24YearsOfDilChahtaHai.”
Dil Chahta Hai proved to be a landmark film when it released in 2001, at the start of the millennium. It was lauded for its portrayal of urban youth and their desires. The film won two National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film in Hindi. It received thirteen nominations at the 47th Filmfare Awards, winning seven, including Best Film (Critics), Best Supporting Actor (Khanna) and Best Comedian (Saif Ali Khan).
The music of the film, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, included many earworms, including ‘Koi Kahe kehta rahe’, ‘Jaane Kyun’ and ‘Tanhaai’.
Farhan will soon be seen in 120 Bahadur, a war-drama. It is slated to release on November 21 this year.
