Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 was initially set to be released in theatres on July 25 but was postponed due to the unprecedented success of Saiyaara. Mrunal Thakur, who played the female lead in Son of Sardaar 2, opened up recently about the makers decision to delay the film in order to allow Saiyaara to make the most of its box office run.

In an interview with Instant Bollywood, Mrunal spoke of the Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer and said, “If a film like this is doing well, we want it to breathe, right? We want it to get its due love and recognition. I mean, 'Why not celebrate Saiyaara?' Let’s give all the screens and everything to a film that deserves that much love.”

She added, “I have not watched the film because I have been promoting lately, but it's on my list, I want to watch it. There are a lot of questions, as in people are saying that you know, ‘Oh, you got scared…' I am like, no, we are only supporting a film which is doing well, and I am so happy that films in Bollywood are doing great, especially with newcomers. This opening is humongous! I am so happy and proud of them (Ahaan and Aneet)…Welcome to cinemas!”

Meanwhile, Son of Sardaar 2 opened to negative reviews from critics and has managed to earn Rs 34.25 crore at the box office. Helmed by Vijay Kumar Arora, it also stars Ravi Kishan, Mukul Dev, Chunky Panday, Vindu Dara Singh, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles.
