Salman Khan is set to collaborate with Malayalam director Mahesh Narayanan for a period action-thriller, as per a report. Mahesh is known for making hard-hitting films like the Fahad Faasil starrers Malik (2021), C U Soon (2020) and Take Off (2017), among others.
A report in Pinkvilla stated that the superstar is currently in the process of meeting more directors to work on his next films. Sources told the publication that Salman has done 4-5 meetings with Mahesh with the recent one taking place last week. “Salman Khan and Mahesh Narayanan have been jamming on multiple ideas, and Salman has given a go-ahead to the filmmaker on a period-thriller with action. The film in discussion will be set in the 1970s to 1990s, and Mahesh will now come back for a full-length narration,” said the source, adding that if Salman gives a nod for the film, it is expected to go on floors next year
An official confirmation on this is awaited.
Meanwhile, Salman recently announced his next, Battle of Galwan, helmed by Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) director Apoorva Lakhia. The film is based on the Galwan Valley clash of 2020, where Indian and Chinese troops fought each other, resulting in casualties on both sides. The fighting majorly involved hand-to-hand combat using sticks and stones as weapons, was banned in the area.
He is also reportedly in talks with Kabir Khan for a stylistic actioner and the sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Salman's last release, Sikandar, turned out to be a major box office failure. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, the AR Murugadoss directorial is about the prince of Rajkot, Sanjay Sikandar Rajkot (Salman Khan), who takes on a mission to protect the three beneficiaries of his deceased wife's organs. The film was criticised for a weak screenplay by critics and audiences.
