Emraan Hashmi spoke about the Pahalgam attack recently in an interview and called it ‘cowardly’, saying that ‘terrorism never has a religion’. The actor recently starred in Ground Zero, a thriller set in Kashmir where he plays an army officer. It was released in theatres on April 24, just two days after the Pahalgam attack.

Speaking about the attack in an interview with Vishal Malhotra, Emraan said, “Our security agencies and those who understand these things have a detailed understanding of it. Our intelligence is very good but questions are being raised about the need for security there.”

He added, “But it was a huge meadow, how many officers or soldiers can you deploy? It was a well-planned attack as it was a tourist hotspot and there were no escape routes nearby. The terrorists just fled. It’s a cowardly attack. I hope the government sets this right and takes a payback.”

Emraan also emphasised that the attack shouldn’t fuel religious tensions. “Of course, terrorism never has a religion. They have a skewed and warped ideology. Our religion never teaches such things.”

The Pahalgam attack, which left 26 dead and many others injured, has sent shockwaves across the country. Several celebrities reacted to the heinous killing of tourists and condemned the attack. Recently, actor Atul Kulkarni visited Pahalgam with the message of supporting Kashmiri people, asking others to not cancel their plans of traveling to the region.
