Woody Harrelson has been tapped to play the main role in director Rick Alverson's upcoming film Summer of Roses, reports Deadline. Alverson is all set to direct it from a screenplay he has written alongside Micah Jayne. Also part of the cast are Caleb Landry Jones, Kaya Wilkins, and Hannah Gross. The film brings Harrelson back together with Landry Jones after their collaboration on Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Set to go on floors in Sicily this October, Summer of Roses' story follows an American expatriate (Harrelson) who is wealthy and is in a self-destructive decline due to substance abuse.
Benjamin Loeb and Magnus Castracane of Small Problems are set to produce Summer of Roses alongside Marco Alessi and Massimiliano Navarra of Dugong Films and Tyler Davidson and Drew Sykes of Low Spark Films.
Also part of the production team are Nick Grau, Derrick Tseng, and John Gray. Meanwhile, Alverson's banner Made Bed Productions as well as Harrelson and Ilya Bronchtein’s label Children at Play are set to serve as executive producers for the film.
Woody Harrelson's upcoming projects include Brothers, co-starring Matthew McConaughey. The comedy from Apple TV stars the actors, who are also friends in real life, as fictionalised versions of their actual personalities who uncover the possibility that they are brothers. McConaughey and Harrelson took the Emmys 2026 stage recently and promoted Brothers, which is slated for a September 23 release.
Coming back to Harrelson, the actor will also be seen next in director Jason Bateman's The Cackling of the Dodos, a crime film for Netflix, co-starring Sam Rockwell. The actor also leads director Quentin Dupieux's upcoming absurdist comedy Full Phil, starring alongside Kristen Stewart.
