Joseph Kosinski's Miami Vice '85 makers have been revealing cast updates from the film in recent days. Less than a day after we reported that Andre Holland has joined the film, the latest addition is Michael Irby (Barry). He is expected to play Lt. Lou Rodriguez in the film, headlined by Michael B Jordan and Austin Butler, who star as Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, respectively.
If the speculations are to be believed, Irby's Lt Lou Rodriguez is based on the NBC series character who spearheads the Metro-Dade Police Department's Organised Crime Bureau division. With this addition, Irby, who has played a crime boss in series like Mayans MC and Barry, will star on the other side of the law.
Irby joins Alden Ehrenreich, Edi Gathegi, Andrew Schulz, Walton Goggins, Whitney Peak, Danny Ramirez, Camila Morrone, and John Leguizamo in the film.
Miami Vice ’85 is set in the glamorous and corrupt world of Miami in the 1980s mid. Production on the film is set to commence later this year, with the shoot also planned for IMAX screens. The makers eye a May 19, 2028, release.
Dylan Clark is attached to produce the film through his eponymous banner alongside Joseph Kosinski. Gilroy’s screenplay is based on Anthony Yerkovich's characters from Miami Vice and builds on a previous draft by Eric Warren Singer.
