Actor Johnny Depp has opened up about his possible return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a sixth instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The actor addressed it during press interviews for his upcoming holiday film Ebenezer on Monday.
During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Depp said that his interest in returning to play Captain Jack Sparrow would depend on how the creators build around the conclusion of the film series. He said that his main aim with the next instalment would be to give the audience a satisfying ending rather than just reprising the role.
“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the 'Pirates' franchise… the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” the actor said.
Depp also spoke about his equation with his longtime friend Jerry Bruckheimer, who is also the producer of the franchise, indicating that both their personal and professional relationship remain strong. "I will go to work with (Jerry) Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. Doesn't matter...if it's Jerry, I trust him. We have a deep friendship," Depp stated.
Depp's alliance with the film franchise began in 2003, with his portrayal as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. His iconic performance as the cunning and eccentric pirate became one of the films' signature elements, with the actor appearing in all five of them.
Johnny Depp is presently getting warmed up for the release of the upcoming dark fantasy adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel Christmas Carol. Ebenezer, directed by Ti West, follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Johnny Depp), who is confronted by three spirits about past, present and the future. The film also features Rupert Grint, Ian Mckellen, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin and Andrea Riseborough. Ebenezer is scheduled to hit theatres on November 13, under Paramount Pictures production.
