We had previously reported that Johnny Depp will headline A Christmas Carol's new adaptation Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol by Ti West. It has now been confirmed that Ian McKellen and Tramell Tillman will play key roles along with Andrea Riseborough in the upcoming film which is scheduled to hit theatres on November 13, 2026.
Written by Charles Dickens and published originally in 1843, A Christmas Carol has had many retellings in over a century. It revolves around the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.
Ti West is known for films such as X, MaXXXine, and Pearl. According to the official description, the film is "a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance." It is to be noted that this is the second Christmas Carol film announced this year after Robert Eggers' movie with Willem Dafoe playing Scrooge.
Reportedly, Tillman will play the Ghost of Christmas Present. Mckellen's character has not been revealed yet. Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman along with Adam Bohling and David Reid serve as executive producers.
Tillman recently earned widespread praise and an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his standout role in the latest season of Apple’s Severance. He is now filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, alongside Tom Holland. His recent projects include wrapping up the Amazon MGM Studios feature Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and Lena Dunham’s Netflix film Good Sex. Earlier this year, he appeared opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
Ian McKellen is best known for his legendary roles as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and Magneto in the X-Men series. He earned critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Gods and Monsters, and appeared in films like The Da Vinci Code, Mr. Holmes, and The Good Liar.
