With The Odyssey set for release within a month, all eyes are on Christopher Nolan and his crew of noted actors to bring Homer's epic poem on the big screen. IMAX and AMC theatres have now revealed the runtime of the upcoming film and it is set to be one of Christopher Nolan's longest-running films.
Clocking in at a whopping 2 hours and 53 minutes, Christopher Nolan's epic period saga is his second-longest film behind Oppenheimer which was three hours long. Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises would rank third and fourth on the table with 2 hours and 49 minutes and 2 hours and 45 minutes, respectively.
While the runtime has been removed from these websites, it has been confirmed by many to be of the time. Since then, the information has also been widely shared on the internet.
Nolan previously confirmed that The Odyssey runtime will be shorter than Oppenheimer and underlined the "massive amount of pressure" involved in making the IMAX film. "Anyone taking on The Odyssey is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere and that comes with a huge responsibility. What I learned from [making The Dark Knight trilogy is that what people want from a movie about a beloved story, a beloved set of characters, is they want a strong and sincere interpretation. They want to know that a filmmaker has gone to the mat for it. I really tried to make the best film possible," he told the Associated Press.
As reported earlier, The Odyssey chronicles Odysseus' long and ardous journey after the Trojan war to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland).
The stacked ensemble includes Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Jimmy Gonzales, Elliot Page and Jovan Adepo, among many others.
Nolan regulars like Oscar winner Hoyte van Hoytema and Oscar Winner Ludwig Goransson are part of The Odyssey. The former is handling cinematography, while the latter is composing the music.
The Odyssey is releasing theatrically on June 17.
