Disney has placed two significant films on its 2028 calendar. Two of its iconic films - Lilo & Stitch's live-action sequel will release in theatres on May 26 while the third part to Incredibles is slated to hit theatres on June 16.
As reported earlier, Elemental and The Good Dinosaur filmmaker Peter Sohn is helming Incredibles 3. Brad Bird, the creative force behind the first two Incredibles films, will not be directing this time but is deeply involved as he’s writing the screenplay and producing the threequel alongside Soul producer Dana Murray. Craig T Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L Jackson have voiced the leading characters Bob Parr/ Mr Incredible, Helen Parr/ Elastigirl and Lucius Best/ Frozone. The first two films were received with critical acclaim and commercial success. While the first one grossed over $630 million, the sequel went on to trump that with $1.24 billion in revenue.
The first film (2004) saw Bob and Helen Parr forced to hide their powers and live a quiet suburban life with their children after superheroes were outlawed, until Bob’s urge to help others pulls the family into a battle against a vengeful former fan. Later, the second film (2018) explored the Incredibles’ efforts to restore public trust in superheroes while balancing their responsibilities as a family.
On the other hand, Lilo & Stitch 2 is expected to capitalise on the Memorial Day weekend. The first live-action film released last year was surprise hit at the box office, minting over $1.3 billion worldwide, thanks to the nostalgia associated with the 2002 animated film. Details on the cast, director or plot have not been revealed yet, but Chris Sanders will write the sequel and again lend his voice as Stitch.
The film, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, follows an alien who accidentally comes to Hawaii, where a girl adopts it alongside her elder sibling.
