Previously, we reported that Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant are all set to star together in an upcoming rom-com from Amazon MGM Studios. Josh Segarra, known for Best Medicine, and Joy Ride actor and comedian Sherry Cola have also been added to the untitled film's cast. The yet-to-be-titled film will be directed by Merchant from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Butler.
According to the makers, the film centres on a career-obsessed British man (Merchant) working at a luxury New York hotel who requires a spouse to maintain appearances. He enters a convenient arrangement with a cash-strapped stand-up comedian (Diaz) seeking health insurance. What begins as a practical agreement gradually evolves into an unforeseen romantic connection.
The film is produced by Lee Eisenberg and Merchant, alongside Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Josh Fagen. Natalie Sandy serves as executive producer.
Segarra, who can currently be seen in Best Medicine, is known for television shows such as She-Hulk, Arrow, The Moodys, Orange is the New Black, Kate Keene, The Other Two and The Big Door, among others. On the film front, he has starred in the Emmy-nominated film Christmas on the Square, Overboard, Trainwreck and Friendship.
Coming up for Sherry Cola are Camp Rock 3 and Shrinking, on television. In theatres, she'll be seen in You're Dating a Narcissist! next month. She was recently seen reprising her role in Netflix's Nobody Wants This. Some of her other known projects include A Family Affair, Poker Face, Turning Red, Claws, Good Trouble, and Bride Hard, among others.
