Director Steven Spielberg's upcoming film Disclosure Day has garnered much critical and audience appreciation ahead of its June 12 release in theatres. After its recent premiere in New York, director Edgar Wright wrote an effusive review for the film, starring Emily Blunt in the lead role.
Taking to Instagram, the director of Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver and The Running Man wrote, "Was lucky enough to attend the NY premiere of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day last night and was thoroughly entertained and fascinated by it. It's a thrilling big screen experience, that full of ideas."
Wright compared Disclosure Day favourably to Spielberg classics such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET: The Extra-Terrestrial. Saying he watched those yesteryear classics at an appropriate age for such big-screen experiences, Wright wrote, "this new film continues those themes and that legacy beautifully."
The filmmaker also expressed his admiration for what Steven Spielberg has managed to achieve in his late 70s as well.
"I love that Steven, over six decades into his career, still has endless imagination and curiosity to burn. This is both a car-chase movie and a conspiracy thriller, but also with a sense of magic and hopefulness that’s best experienced for yourself," Wright shared.
Expressing his interest in watching the film once more in a theatre, Wright wrote, "There’s so much to chew on, and barely time to savour the always-impeccable direction and blocking by the maestro. Just as I was wowed by one perfectly clever bit of visual storytelling, we were already onto the next."
Praising Spielberg and the cast, he added, "It’s yet another dazzler from the master, with great performances from Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Josh O’Connor and my old pal, the always brilliant Colman Domingo."
At the end of his note, Wright revealed that he revisited Close Encounters of the Third Kind recently, before watching the latest Spielberg film. "It was the perfect one-two with this new movie. Go see it this weekend and be transported. And to quote the old 1977 tag line of Close Encounters - 'We Are Not Alone,'" Wright signed off.
