Promotions for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are in full swing mode for the cast and crew, including Tom Holland, who stars in both films. In a recent interview, the actor made a candid self admission that surprised a few. Speaking on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland said that he tried to communicate with the Norwegian football sensation and the national team's star performer at the FIFA World Cup, Erling Haaland, but to no avail.
When Jimmy Fallon asked Tom Holland as to whether he DMed Erling Haaland, the actor admitted that he did and revealed what happened afterwards. "That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors," Holland said. The actor then added that he thought it would be easy for him to just send a text to Haaland and take the footballer to dinner, but things did not pan out the way he expected.
"Not even a response. Not an excuse. No 'I'm busy tonight. I'm playing football.' Nada," Holland said about what transpired after his text to Erling Haaland.
The incident happened during the Monaco Grand Prix, where Holland was present to watch F1 sensation Lewis Hamilton race. When Holland saw the footballer, "a hospitality suite away from" him and messaged him, he did not respond because he did not know who Holland is, according to reports, something which the actor did not deny during the conversation with Fallon.
For the unversed, Haaland scored seven goals in the FIFA World Cup, including a brace against Brazil that helped Norway reach the WC Quarter Final with England. The team eventually lost the QC match, but Haaland's performances earned him the appreciation of many football fans around the world, including Holland. This is partly why the Spider-Man star acknowledged Haaland as a legend of football.
