After the success of her critically acclaimed emotional drama Rental Family, Hikari is all set to helm Apple Original Films' upcoming holiday feature Foster the Snowman from Peter Huyck and Jono Matt.
The plot of Foster the Snowman follows a couple without children unexpectedly step into parenthood when they take in a charming snowman whose enchanted existence lasts only 72 hours. As time races against them, they experience every stage of raising a child in a whirlwind, heartfelt journey packed into just three magical days.
Kevin Walsh’s The Walsh Company will be backing the film along with Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan. Executive producers are Huyck, Matt and Liz Lippman. This is the second time Apple and Huyck are collaborating after the award-winning comedy series The Studio in which Huyck is the writer and executive producer.
After making her debut with 37 Seconds, which premiered at the 69th Berlin Film Festival, Hikari's sophomore directorial Rental Family, starring Brendan Fraser was released last year to rave reviews from audiences and critics.
On television, Hikari directed three episodes of the Emmy-winning series Beef, including the pilot, and also worked on HBO Max’s Tokyo Vice. Among her upcoming projects is Made in Utah, an original series in development with Annapurna, inspired by her experiences as an exchange student living with a Mormon family in Utah.
