Earlier, we reported about Colin Farrell's Detective John Sugar coming back for a fresh case in a second season of the popular investigative series, created by Mark Protosevich. The latest development about it is that Apple TV has announced the premiere date of the series. The other day, the streamer revealed that the eight-episode-long Sugar season 2 would be available on its platform from June 19, Friday, on a sequential basis. In other words, the first episode will drop on June 19, followed by the subsequent episodes each Friday, with the finale schedule for an August 07 release. Besides announcing the release date, Apple TV also dropped posters offering a first look at the characters in the series, including Colin Farrell's titular detective.
In Sugar season 2, Farrell's character tracks "the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as his search for his beloved missing sister continues. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?"
The upcoming season of Sugar is set in the same city of Los Angeles but has a fresh set of cast. The new cast members include Jin Ha, Tony Dalton, Raymond Lee, Sasha Calle, Laura Donnelly, and Shea Whigham in a special guest role. Sam Catlin serves as the showrunner and executive producer. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon of Genre Films also serve as executive producers as per the former's overall agreement with Apple TV. Chip Vucelich, Farrell, and Scott Greenberg serve as executive producers as well.
