The makers of the series adaptation of the God of War games has found their Kratos in Dave Bautista. The cast confirmation comes after weeks of speculation about Bautista's involvement in the series in its main role. The actor replaces Ryan Hurst in the role after Hurst picked up a bicep injury, which necessitated surgery for him. To avoid a delay in production, the makers have now chosen Bautista.
Hailing from executive producer-writer-showrunner Ronald Moore, God of War is set to have two seasons for Prime Video. Principal photography on season one commenced in Vancouver in February this year, and with Dave Bautista coming into the cast, a resumption of production is expected soon. The makers will shoot every scene previously involving Hurst again. Reportedly, production on the second season is set to take place soon after the first one.
In the video games, Kratos is a demigod with a remarkably muscular physique. Bautista is regarded as an ideal choice to play Kratos on such an immediate basis because of his physical attributes, which reportedly eliminate the need for months-long preparation for him for the role.
The web series will be based on the last two games in the franchise, where Kratos must battle Norse pantheon Gods even as he raises his teenaged son Atreus. The makers have cast Callum Vinson for the role of Atreus. The plotline reads, "Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human."
The series also stars Max Parker as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Ed Skrein as Baldur, and Jeff Gulka and Danny Woodburn as siblings Sindri and Brok.
