Ed Skrein has become the latest actor to join the cast of Prime Video's God of War. Skrein is set to essay the role of Baldur, a son of Norse god Odin.
The official description of Baldur reads, "Baldur may be the youngest son of Odin, but he’s his father’s most dangerous weapon. Charismatic, unpredictable and armed with a razor-sharp tongue, Baldur lives by his own rules. As a boy, Baldur was cursed; this curse denied him the ability to feel pleasure and physical sensation. This fuels an insatiable anger and bloodlust in Baldur, who favors a brawling fighting style that blends his immense power with the raw impact of his fists. Above all else, he longs for an opponent that can truly match his prowess in battle. An opponent that can finally make him feel something."
The upcoming series is an adaptation of the video game, God of War: Ragnarok, which was released in 2022. The series will follow the journey of Kratos and his son Atreus, as they journey to spread the ashes of Atreus' mother, Faye. In their journey, Kratos teaches his son to be a better god, while Atreus teaches his father to be a better human.
The cast of the series includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Callum Vinson as Atreus, Max Parker as Heimdall, Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.
Ronald D Moore serves as the showrunner for God of War. Frederick EO Toye, who has worked on Shogun, is set to direct the first two episodes of the series. Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Tall Ship Productions and Amazon MGM Studios are backing the series.
Skrein is known for his role as Ajax in Deadpool (2016), and was recently seen in Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025). He will be seen in Prime Video's Ride or Die, alongside Bill Nighy and Hannah Waddingham.
