In the trailer of Netflix's upcoming original, Best Of The Best, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is enrolled in an American university alongside Priyanka Kedia, and their student life takes a turn when they decide to join a Bollywood fusion troupe. The film is all set to premiere on the streamer on September 18.
Maya (Maitreyi) and Anjali (Priyanka) sign up for their university's Bollywood fusion dance troupe and find it difficult to keep up with the competition in the film's trailer. The official description of the film reads, "Two childhood best friends, Maya (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Priyanka Kedia), join UCLA’s competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team, only to discover that the road to winning the U.S. Championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined."
Helmed by Lena Khan, Best Of The Best has a script by Hasan Minhaj, who co-wrote it with Patriot Act collaborator Prashanth Venkataramanujam. Hasan also plays a role in the film alongside Chaneil Kular, Ankur Rathee, Shreya Navile, Nico Greetham, Lilly Singh, Janina Gavankar, and Kavi Ramachandran.
Speaking about playing Maya in the film, Maitreyi told Netflix, “Maya’s full of spunk. She’s got nerve. She’s quite combative, but I love her. She’s not just your surface-level hard-ass. She’s vulnerable, and she really just wants to be loved.” Further, Priyanka said, "I’ve been her before, and I still am her in small ways. I think we’re meeting Anjali on this really beautiful journey where she’s learning who she is outside the roles she’s used to playing — whether that’s the obedient daughter or unconditional best friend.”
