
Never Have I Ever breakout star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia of Everything To Me-fame have come together to join Hasan Minhaj in the upcoming Bollywood film Best of the Best for Netflix.
The comedy feature will be directed by Lena Khan, known for Flora & Ulysses from a script written by the well-known comedian along with Prashanth Venkataramanujam. It is to be noted that Khan has previously worked on many episodes of Ramakrishnan's hit coming-of-age series Never Have I Ever for the streaming giant.
According to the makers, Best of the Best follows two childhood best friends, Maya and Anjali, who join their college’s competitive Bollywood dance team only to discover that the road to winning the national championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined. Apart from aiming to celebrate Bollywood Fusion Dance, the film also is expected to explore the growing pains of young adulthood and the power of friendship.
Minhaj and Venkataramanujam are backing the film under 186K films while Jonathan Eirich is producing for Rideback. Ryan Halprin serves as the executive producer.
Ramakrishnan gained widespread recognition for playing Devi Vishwakumar in Never Have I Ever. She has also voiced characters in animated titles such as Turning Red and Big Mouth. Up next, she’ll star in Freakier Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Julia Butters.
Kedia will be seen in the upcoming film Everything to Me, which features Victoria Pedretti, Judy Greer, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
Minhaj is known for his critically acclaimed Netflix show Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, which earned a Peabody Award, as well as his stand-up special Homecoming King. Later this year, he will appear in Disney’s Tron: Ares.
