She needs more time to write the murder, as the Jamie Lee Curtis-led Murder, She Wrote reboot has been postponed. The beloved crime drama from Universal Pictures, initially slated for Dec 22, 2027, will now open in theatres on Feb 4, 2028.
The new release date pushes the film's release away from big franchise films, Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum, and The Housemaid's Secret. All three of the sequels are scheduled for December 17, a week before Murder, She Wrote's original release date.
From a screenplay penned by Dumb Money writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, Jason Moore, known for Pitch Perfect, is helming Murder, She Wrote. Through their first-look deal with Universal Pictures, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, fresh from the box-office hit of Project Hail Mary, will produce the film.
The role of the iconic crime writer and amateur detective, Jessica Fletcher, originally played by Angela Lansbury in the TV series, will be portrayed by Curtis in the reboot. Set in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the series that ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, showed Fletcher's skill for investigating and deducing murders. Plot details for the reboot are yet to be disclosed.
Last seen in Ella McCay, Curtis recently had a cameo in The Only Living Pickpocket in New York. She currently has the crime thriller Sender in the pipeline, which recently had its premiere at SXSW. On the TV front, she can be seen alongside Nicole Kidman in a main role in Scarpetta.
