Earlier on Thursday, the official trailer of the crime thriller Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Simon Baker and Bobby Cannavale was released. The Prime Video series, based on the bestselling book series by Patricia Cornwell, is set to release on March 11.
The two-minute-long trailer indicates that the story will unfold across two timelines — one follows a young Dr Kay Scarpetta played by Rosy McEwen, which explores her early career as a chief medical examiner in the '90s and the second timeline follows a present-day Dr Kay Scarpetta’s return to her roots, where she resumes her role to unmask a gruesome murderer.
In the trailer, Dr Scarpetta is assigned the case of examining the victims of a serial killer. As she comes closer to discovering who the murderer is, she notices patterns of her first case, repeating in the proceedings of the current one. Uncertain about whether or not to dig up the bygone case, fearing old secrets getting unraveled, Scarpetta is advised by her co-workers to relieve herself of her duties and “never look back.” It doesn’t help that her sister Dorothy, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, isn’t approving of her revisiting the past either — “It’s a barrel of monkeys, I would not want popping open,” she tells Scarpetta.
The TV series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television, is written and developed by Liz Sarnoff. The series also stars Ariana DeBose, Rosy McEwen, Jake Cannavale, Hunter Parrish and Amanda Righetti. Nicole Kidman, the lead, was last seen in Holland (2025) and is awaiting the release of her next TV series Margot’s Got Money Troubles.
