Brandon Routh has become the latest addition to the cast of the independent film Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actor, best known for playing the titular role in 2006's Superman Returns, joins previously announced cast members Sean Patrick Flanery, Trevor Donovan, and Selma Blair. Tane McClure is set to direct the film, besides producing it through her namesake banner along with Light Year Pictures' Michelle Alexandria.
Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law is based on the real story of a dog named Ethan. When Ethan's owner abandoned the dog under many blankets, a man named Jeff Callaway found him and ensured his recuperation with the help of veterinarians. The incident strengthened Callaway's bond with Ethan, leading him to adopt the dog.
Subsequently, Ethan's story inspired Callaway to initiate a campaign that led to the development of an eponymous animal welfare law in Kentucky. According to the makers, the film's plot will celebrate compassion, the transformative capacity of kindness, and resilience.
The film will star Sean Patrick Flanery as Callaway, and Brandon Routh as a veteran cop with a profound sense of justice and calm authority. The makers say that Routh's character, Greg Carlson, anchors the moral and emotional stakes of the film.
Production on the film is set commence later this April in the real locations of Kentucky where the dog's story happened. Besides Clark Kent and his alter ego, Superman, in the 2006 film, Routh is known for his roles in Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Legends of Tomorrow. His upcoming projects also include a voice role in the Netflix series Magic: The Gathering.
