Mena Suvari and Brandon Routh have signed up for Ick, the next directorial venture of Grammy-winner Joseph Kahn. Ick is reportedly a throwback to 1980s creature films with a blend of horror and comedy. According to reports, the film stars Routh as a science teacher at a high school, named Hank, who harbours feelings for his lover from childhood (Suvari). Reports also say that it deals with an alien phenomenon named Ick that comes to Hank's small town. The film also stars Malina Weissman.
Kahn directed music videos featuring icons like Rihanna, Eminem, U2, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and so forth. His previous film was a comedy that revolved around a rap battle, titled Bodied.
Ick also sees the reunion of Kahn and producer Steven Schneider, who has credits like Paranormal Activity, Split, and Insidious. Kahn is also the writer of the film, along with Dan Koontz and Sam Laskey.
Interstellar Entertainment is backing this film, while Peter Trinh and CAA Media Finance are funding it and representing its global distribution rights. Steven Schneider is the producer of the film, while Udaya Sharma is its executive producer.
“Ick is a movie that evokes primal fears about the world today, and best of all, it introduces a unique mysterious monster. I am thrilled that Interstellar has aligned to produce this modern creature feature that is challenging and escapist fun (sic),” said Kahn about the film.
