On Thursday night, the makers of Ballard revealed that production has commenced on its second season. Maggie Q reprises her role as Detective Renee Ballard in Ballard season 2, alongside Courtney Taylor who comes back to play LAPD officer Samira Parker. Created by Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, the Bosch spinoff series follows Maggie Q's titular character who unearths a sinister conspiracy related to law enforcement during her pursuit of a ruthless killer. Grappling with her own inner demons, Renee Ballard must outsmart her colleagues and criminals and finally bring justice to both the victims and their relatives.
Ballard is an adaptation of the Renee Ballard series of books penned by Michael Connelly, also the author of the Harry Bosch novels. The first season ended with a cliffhanger, so the upcoming chapter is expected to continue from where it left off. Connelly also serves as one of the executive producers of the series.
The first season released on Prime Video last year to much critical appreciation. Coming back to Ballard season 2, the upcoming chapter also stars Ross Partridge, Ever Carradine, Benjamin Bratt, and Hamish Linklater, Rosanna Arquette, among others.
According to MovieWeb, Titus Welliver, the actor known for his titular role in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, is set to reprise his Ballard role from the first season in the second one. And according to Yahoo Entertainment, John Carroll Lynch, Rebecca Field, Amy Hill, and Victoria Moroles also reprise their roles from the first season.
Announcing the production update, Ballard team dropped a clip where the cast and crew can be seen reading lines from the screenplay. Interestingly, its first episode is titled Blue Widow and written by Ralph Gifford.
Prime Video is yet to set a release date for Ballard season 2.
