Recently, we reported about the development of a series that serves as a prequel to Prime Video's Bosch, which starred Titus Welliver in the titular role. The latest update about the series is that principal photography on it has commenced. On Friday night, actor Cameron Monaghan shared a still from the production set and wrote, "Bosch: Start of Watch. Now filming. Coming soon."

As reported earlier, Bosch: Start of Watch stars Cameron Monaghan as a younger version of LAPD detective Harry Bosch, popularised by Titus Welliver in the original show. It will trace the rookie detective's rise up the ranks through the different levels of the law enforcement system in Los Angeles of the early 1990s. With the city teetering with racism, violence, and a corrupt law enforcement system, Bosch must prove how loyal he is to the LAPD badge and mould himself into a detective who strictly follows the core philosophy, "Everybody counts or nobody counts."

As previously reported, the Bosch prequel series also stars Omari Hardwick as the titular character's training officer, Eli Bridges. The cast includes Ariana Guerra, JD Pardo, Azita Ghanizada, William Fichtner, Kathleen Wilhoite, Raphael Sbarge, Seamus Dever, Kenneth Miller, Marco Rodriguez, Ryan McPartlin, and Rafi Gavron.

While Bosch is an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s eponymous book series, the prequel lacks a direct source because an origin story is not part of the novels. What forms the story is a set of elements from Harry Bosch's early days explored in the novels, and Connelly said that it delves into "uncharted character territory". Recently, Cameron Monaghan called it "a great script" and expressed his excitement about immersing himself in the project.

A Fabel Entertainment production, the series has Tom Bernardo of Bosch: Legacy fame as its showrunner, co-creator, and executive producer. Bosch: Legacy's Brian Anthony also serves as a co-creator and an executive producer on the series.
