The strong word of mouth for One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, seems to have worked in the film's favour, if the box office numbers are anything to go by. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has grossed more than $45 million from theatres worldwide. There has been plenty of discourse about the Warner Bros Pictures film's potential to earn commercial success, considering its reported $150 budget and the previous filmography of Paul Thomas Anderson. For the uninitiated, Anderson is also known for his films that discuss serious topics, such as There Will Be Blood and The Master. However, with the strong reviews for the film as a piece of entertainment, the Anderson directorial is expected to collect more from the box office.
In India alone, the film has earned a little over 1 crore over the first two days of its release, according to Sacnilk.
The film tells the story of a man (DiCaprio) who wants to keep his daughter (Chase Infiniti) away from his past days as a revolutionary. However, when an erstwhile enemy resurfaces and his past catches up with him, he must get back together with his fellow revolutionaries to help save his family life. The film also stars Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall, among others.
In our One Battle After Another movie review, Prashanth Vallavan called the film, "A deeply incisive and entertaining commentary on the absurdities of extreme attachments to ideologies, and how love and the spirit of rebellion still thrive above all of that."
