Amid the recent discourse about the commercial prospects of director Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, the film's lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio opened up regarding whether a film's box office performance concerns him. Variety asked DiCaprio about it, and the actor said that it is "very important," also in light of the Paul Thomas Anderson film. The actor revealed that while the availability of films and series through streaming platforms and the increase in production as a result is a "good thing," a film's commercial success still matters to him. "I think box office is important because it means people are in the seats going to theater, going to have that communal experience," said DiCaprio, who has made his first collaboration with Anderson on a film with One Battle After Another. According to DiCaprio, the film is "uniquely crafted" and tailored to the experience of watching it in a theatre.
"I mean, Paul shot this movie in Vista Vision — cameras that have rarely been used since the early ‘60s. He wants people to have that immersive experience and make an action film that’s unexpected, tactile, realistic and something that is probably a lot different than what we’ve been saturated with. In that respect, box office is very important," emphasised the actor.
One Battle After Another's cast also includes Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and debutant Chase Infiniti. It has received positive reviews from not just early screenings but also after the first day of release, making some regard it as an Oscar Best Picture contender. If the film goes on to become a major hit, it would mark another successful outing for distributor Warner Bros Pictures this year. The distributor has worked on seven successful films this year: A Minecraft Movie, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Sinners, F1, Superman, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and Weapons.
