Millie Bobby Brown is set to step into the shoes of Olympic legend Kerri Strug in the upcoming drama Perfect, with Gia Coppola directing. According to sources, the Emmy-nominated Stranger Things star is in final talks for the role, while Netflix is negotiating to acquire the project.
Written by Ronnie Sandahl, the film will be produced by Brown under her PMCA banner, alongside Nik Bower of Riverstone Pictures and Thomas Benski of Magna Studios. Production is expected to begin next spring.
Strug’s story remains one of the defining moments in Olympic history. Competing as part of the famed “Magnificent Seven” at the 1996 Atlanta Games, she clinched victory for the U.S. team by performing a decisive vault despite a severely injured ankle. The unforgettable image of Strug sticking the landing before collapsing in pain and later being carried off the floor by her coach cemented her place as a symbol of determination and resilience.
For Brown, the project marks a significant turn toward awards-season territory. Comparisons are already being drawn to Margot Robbie’s acclaimed portrayal of Tonya Harding in I, Tonya. The actor has already proven her range outside Stranger Things with Netflix’s Enola Holmes franchise, the third instalment of which is in the works. She is also set to star in Just Picture Itopposite Gabriel LaBelle.
Meanwhile, fans are preparing to bid farewell to her breakout role as Eleven. The final season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts, beginning Thanksgiving weekend and concluding on New Year’s Eve.
Coppola, who made her feature debut with Palo Alto at Telluride, Venice, and Toronto, has since built a diverse filmography. Her most recent feature, The Last Showgirl (2024), earned Pamela Anderson a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture.
