David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, is developing a new series based on the USA's Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) Project: MKUltra. The upcoming series will be the first series from Chase after The Sopranos.
Based on John Lisle's Project Mind Control: Sidney Gottlieb, the CIA, and the Tragedy of MKUltra, the series will centre on Sidney Gottlieb, a chemist and the head of the CIA's MKUltra Psychedelic program, which focused on mind control experiments, during the Cold War. The program experimented on people with or without their consent.
The impact of CIA's program can be found in projects like Stranger Things, in which the origins of the story is a parallel to Project: MKUltra. According to Deadline, Chase is also serving as an executive producer alongside Nicole Lambert under the Riverrain Pictures banner.
Chase has won multiple Emmy awards for his work on The Sopranos. He has won the award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series, including recieving nominations for Oustanding Directing for Drama Series.
