Prime Video is set to release a documentary titled John Candy: I Like Me, produced by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and directed by Colin Hanks, later this month. According to the official description, the documentary explores iconic comedian Candy's life both behind and in front of the camera. The streamer says that the film features, "never-before-seen home videos, intimate access to his family, and candid recollections from collaborators to paint a bigger picture of one of the brightest stars of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. It’s the story of a son, husband, father, friend, and professional driven to bring joy to audiences and loved ones while battling personal ghosts and Hollywood pressures."

Interestingly, the documentary has a rendition of Paul Young's song 'Everytime You Go Away' by Cynthia Erivo. The other day, the Entertainment Weekly magazine released a recording of the Wicked star's song. Many have been praising the documentary makers' decision to choose Erivo for the song, with a special mention of her deep voice and the profound emotions her vocals carry. For example, Paul Myers, the author of the book John Candy: A Life in Comedy, called it a "brilliant choice". On the other hand, John Candy: I Like Me producer Amazon MGM Studios wrote, "Cue the goosebumps" under the magazine's Instagram post, whereas the streamer Prime Video called it an "instant tear-jerker".

On the other hand, in reference to Cynthia Erivo's rendition of the 'Everytime You Go Away' song, digital content creator Dennica Ricciardi Power wrote, "The voice of an angel singing for an angel gone too soon." Candy died of a heart attack in 1994 as just a 43-year-old. Interestingly, the most iconic use of the song comes in the climax of director John Hughes's comedy film Planes, Trains and Automobiles, starring Candy and Steve Martin in the lead roles.

John Candy: I Like Me is slated for an October 10 release on Prime Video.
