Actor Cynthia Erivo, fresh off her Oscar nomination for Wicked, in which she plays the wicked witch Elphaba, will team up with Platinum Dunes, the banner popular for franchises such as A Quiet Place and The Purge, for the adaptation of the 2024 sci-fi thriller 'Saturation Point'.
The film will be made for Universal by Cynthia's Edith's Daughter banner along with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes
The film adaptation of the 2024 book, written by Adrian Tchaikovsky, will be penned by Minnie Schedeen of If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) and Farmhouse (2017) fame.
The book is a climate thriller that features the most humid, and therefore uninhabitable, part of the Earth. As the trope of the genre has it, a team led by Dr Jasmine Marks sets out on a search and a rescue mission, which leads to the discovery of more dangers unknown yet.
Erivo's previous feature Wicked earned around $800 million worldwide, with 10 Oscar nominations and two wins. The next instalment from the franchise will be arriving in theatres on November 21.
