The much-anticipated Highlander reboot continues to stack its already star-studded lineup, with Siobhán Cullen, Jun Jong-seo, Nassim Lyes, and Kevin McKidd now joining the cast of Amazon MGM’s reimagining of the 1980s cult classic.
Henry Cavill headlines the fantasy action epic as Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander who discovers his immortality and faces off against others like him through the ages. “There can be only one,” as the original 1986 film declared, but this ensemble suggests otherwise.
Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick franchise, is helming the film under Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner. While production was initially expected to roll out in late 2025, Cavill’s pre-production injury delayed the start date to early 2026.
Cavill leads a cast that already boasts Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Drew McIntyre. Bautista portrays the fearsome Kurgen, the film’s central antagonist, while Gillan appears as MacLeod’s mortal Scottish wife. Crowe takes on the role of Ramirez, MacLeod’s mentor and fellow immortal. Hounsou plays a warrior hailing from Africa, Abela is set to appear as MacLeod’s modern-day love interest, and Irons steps in as the leader of the Watchers, a secret order that monitors immortals and deems them dangerous to humankind.
Among the new additions, Cullen portrays a police psychiatrist who becomes entangled in the world of immortals and allies with MacLeod. Jun Jong-seo joins as a member of the Watchers, while Nassim Lyes plays an immortal adversary hunting the protagonist. Kevin McKidd’s character, however, remains under wraps for now.
Michael Finch has penned the screenplay, with production duties handled by Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists, alongside Neal H Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.
Cullen is an Irish actor known for Netflix’s Bodkin and Hulu’s Obituary. Korean star Jun Jong-seo most recently headlined Project Y, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She first gained global attention for her role in Lee Chang-dong’s Burning, South Korea’s first film to make the Oscars shortlist for Best International Feature, and later led Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.
Lyes, a French actor and former national kickboxing champion, appeared in Netflix’s 2024 hit Under Paris, now ranked as the streamer’s second most-watched non-English movie ever. He also made his English-language debut opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in The Spy.
