Watcher director Chloe Okuno’s next, Brides, is all set to star Olivia Cooke in the lead role. The Neon thriller will also have a script written by the filmmaker. With Neon onboard as distributor, the film will be backed by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu through their Likely Story banner.

In Brides, Cooke will star as Sally Bishop, a role which was initially set for Maika Monroe, who had to step down due to scheduling issues with Reminders of Him, the Colleen Hoover book adaptation. In the film, Cooke’s Sally travels along with her husband to a remote Italian villa, where the owner of the property takes special interest in her.

Monroe starred in Okuno’s feature debut, the psychological thriller Watcher, which made its rounds across the film festival circuit, including the Sundance Film Festival. Apart from Watcher, Okuno’s other works include the short film Slut and the ‘Storm Drain’ segment from the anthology series V/H/S/94. Okuno’s style is generally genre-based content that tends to unsettle and excite.

Olivia Cooke is best known for performing in Ready Player One and Me, Earl and The Dying Girl. She was last seen in season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon and recently wrapped filming for The Girlfriend, an Amazon series also starring Robin Wright.
