Doctor Who actor David Tennant wished to be Mister Fantastic, also called Reed Richards, in The Fantastic Four. At the recent MCM Comic Con event, a fan asked Tennant about the superhero character he wanted to portray in a feature film, and the actor mentioned the role that eventually went to Pedro Pascal. "In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction. Although if it has to be someone, I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly," said Tennant. He also went to describe The Last of Us star as "the bigger daddy" as he addressed a question about the latter's video for Vanity Fair's lie detector test.

Recently, Pedro Pascal described playing Reed Richards as “really intimidating” experience.

Besides Pascal, The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), Ralph Ineson (Galactus), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Julia Garner (the Silver Surfer). In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the titular superheroes must protect Earth from Ineson's space god character Galactus and Garner's Silver Surfer, Galactus' mysterious Herald. The film is slated for a July 25 release date in India.
