Maestro actor Carey Mulligan is in discussions to come on board the cast of Narnia, Greta Gerwig’s film for Netflix. The film is based on the bestselling fantasy novels, The Chronicles of Narnia, by C S Lewis.
If she comes onboard, Mulligan will be seen as Digory’s mother. Digory is one of the film’s young protagonists. Mulligan will be joining Daniel Craig who plays Digory’s uncle, Meryl Streep who will feature as lion Aslan the Great and Emma Mackey, who will portray the White Witch.
Reportedly based on the sixth Narnia book, The Magician’s Nephew, Gerwig will be writing as well directing the upcoming film. With production set to start next year, the film will reportedly revolve around Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer discovering their magical world with the former’s uncle’s magic.
Gerwig, whose Barbie broke box office records in 2023, has been attached to the Narnia project since 2020 after earning critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Lady Bird. Netflix acquired the rights to the beloved fantasy series in 2018 and aims to turn it into a major franchise. The film is scheduled to debut in theatres on Thanksgiving Day in 2026 for two weeks before its OTT run—a rare move for the streamer—following Gerwig's request.
Mulligan, who has received three Oscar nominations, was last seen in James Griffith’s The Ballad of Wallis Island, which received critical acclaim at Sundance. She was also seen in Saltburn, Maestro and Spaceman. Next up, she will be a part of the next season of Beef featuring Oscar Isaac, Charles Melson and Cailee Spaeny, among others.
