Zoey Luna and Aya Cash have wrapped filming on Slay, a sharp-edged horror dramedy that brings a fresh creative team to the big screen. Directed by Kyra Elise Gardner in her scripted feature debut and written by actor Jimmi Simpson, marking his first full-length screenplay, the film promises a thrilling and darkly comedic twist on the high school drama.

Slay centres on a group of seven high school seniors whose weekend getaway descends into chaos when their emotional betrayals begin to spill into real-life violence. The ensemble cast includes Shawnee Smith, Sean Giambrone, Maliina Weismann, Beck Nolan, Reise Alexander, River Alexander, Talia Jackson, and Ruby McCollister.

Simpson and Gardner also produce the film, alongside Harrison Rothman, Scott Foley, and Bradley Sloan.

Aya Cash, known for her breakout role on FX’s You’re the Worst, has a busy slate ahead. She’ll next be seen in the coming-of-age dramedy Adult Children and is set to appear in Rachel Israel’s The Floaters and Michael Russell Gunn’s Cold War drama Reykjavik. Fans of The Boys can also look forward to her return as Stormfront in Prime Video’s Vought Rising.

Zoey Luna, who gained attention in The Craft: Legacy and appeared in Dear Evan Hansen and FX’s Pose, continues to carve out space in both genre and dramatic work.

Gardner, who previously directed the well-received documentary Living with Chucky for Cinedigm, brings her horror know-how to Slay with a more narrative-driven project. Simpson, meanwhile, is currently filming Season 2 of Apple TV+’s Dark Matter and can be seen reprising his role in the Black Mirror sequel episode 'USS Callister'.
