Tom Cruise has confirmed that he is considering sequels for Top Gun: Maverick and Days of Thunder. The actor, who is fresh off the release of Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning, recently wrapped filming for the film from Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu.
Meanwhile, he is also in discussions for follow-ups for the abovementioned films. In conversation with Today Show Australia, he said, “Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what we could do and what's possible. It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.”
Helmed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun featuring Tom Cruise as the naval aviator Maverick. The film, which hit theatres in 2022, opened to both commercial success and critical acclaim. Similarly, the 1990 film Days of Thunder, helmed by Tony Scott, was also a hit.
Meanwhile, Cruise also spoke about completing Inarritu. "There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, and posting a film. I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, and we'll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and Christopher McQuarrie and I are always working on several different films," he added.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning hit theatres in Indian on May 17 and opened to largely positive reviews. It is the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.
