Margaret Qualley is back playing her homosexual private detective in the second instalment in Ethan Coen's 'lesbian B-movie' franchise, titled Honey Don't. The makers of the film, also starring Chris Evans and Aubrey Plaza, released a trailer for it earlier today. According to the official description, the film "is a dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church."
Evans plays Reverend Drew in Honey Don't, a clergy member who spouts religious sermons in daytime and sleeps with multiple women at night. At the start of the trailer, Qualley's character finds a ring with a cross symbol in it from a murder spot, and her investigation into it leads her to Drew and his church. How is Drew connected to the woman's murder? Is his wearing the clergy cassock to hide his evildoing? At one point, a car runs over a man, dragging him to a possible death situation, and Drew, pointing his finger at the man, says, "This is God's punishment".
Recently, Qualley described Honey as a suave and mysterious character. Honey Don't reunites Qualley and Coen with the latter's writer spouse Tricia Cooke after last year's Drive-Away Dolls. Coen and Cooke penned the screenplay for the film. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing the film under their Working Title banner, alongside Coen, Cooke, and Robert Graf.
Honey Don't is set to release on August 22 in theatres. Billy Eichner and Charlie Day are also part of the film's cast.
