Even after showcasing his daredevil stunts in seven Mission Impossible films across three decades, Tom Cruise managed to stun audiences once again by jumping from a fighter jet and dangling from an upside-down plane in the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8 film. Actor Simon Pegg, who knows Cruise's appetite for shooting these action sequences said that he goes to great lengths, sometimes "literally risking his life for the audience".
Pegg said that he told Cruise, "You're absolutely nuts" several times, but he hardly bothers about it.
Sharing details on shooting a sequence for 2011's Ghost Protocol, the fourth film in the franchise where Cruise climbed the exterior of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest building, Pegg said, "Just leaning out of the window and seeing Tom sort of hanging there, smiling, this big s--- eating grin on his face, like, 'I'm having the best time,'" He also recalled the scene where the actor was holding the outside of a military plane as it takes off. "That was the first time I'd seen him nervous," added Pegg, "There were a lot of variables involved in that stunt ... a lot of things that could have gone wrong. Everything is managed to the micro detail. You know, the stunt team is amazing. Tom is obviously incredibly dedicated to making sure he's ready," he told People.
The eight instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, is set to mark to the end of Cruise's journey as Ethan Hunt. The film marks the return of director Christopher McQuarrie after 2023's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
It also brings back actors Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Angela Bassett, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Mark Gatiss. The new additions to the franchise include Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, Rolf Saxon, and Lucy Tulugarjuk.
