Vin Diesel has confirmed that Fast & Furious 11, the next and possibly final instalment in the long-running action franchise, is targeting an April 2027 release and hinted at the return of one of its most iconic characters.
Speaking at Fuel Fest in Pomona, California, on Saturday night, Diesel addressed a crowd of fans alongside co-stars Tyrese Gibson and Cody Walker. During his appearance, he revealed that he had agreed to the studio’s proposed 2027 timeline under three specific conditions: the story must return to Los Angeles, it must reconnect with the franchise’s roots in car culture and street racing, and, most notably, it must reunite Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner.
“The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast and Furious [in] April 2027?’ I said, ‘Under three conditions,’” Diesel shared. “First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A. The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.”
Brian O’Conner, famously played by the late Paul Walker, has not appeared on screen since Fast & Furious 7, which was completed using digital doubles and Walker’s brothers after the actor’s death in 2013. While Diesel didn’t elaborate on how the character would return, his comments suggest that the filmmakers may be considering a digital or symbolic reappearance of Walker’s character in the final chapter.
Fast X, the most recent entry in the series, was released in May 2023 and grossed over $700 million globally. Marketed as the first half of a two-part finale, the film featured a sprawling cast including Jason Momoa, Michelle Rodriguez, Brie Larson, and Alan Ritchson. However, with a long gap between instalments, it remains uncertain whether Fast 11 will pick up directly from the cliffhanger ending of Fast X.
Universal has yet to officially confirm plot details, but Diesel’s comments suggest the franchise will look to wrap up with a return to its emotional core, the brotherhood between Dom and Brian, and a nod to the street racing culture where it all began.
