Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Roofman, an upcoming film starring Channing Tatum and directed by Derek Cianfrance. The drama, made on the basis of a real story, follows an erstwhile American Army Reserve officer and struggling father (Tatum) who turns to crime to get by financially.

Desperate to provide for his family, the protagonist adopts an audacious method: robbing McDonald's restaurants by cutting through their roofs, a tactic that earns him the notorious moniker 'Roofman'. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when, after getting out of prison, he finds refuge at a toy store. There, he embarks on a new chapter, getting into a romantic relationship with a single mother (Kirsten Dunst) with two children. However, his past criminal exploits and a final, desperate robbery threaten to derail his chance at redemption.

Roofman is directed by Cianfrance from a screenplay he wrote with Kirt Gunn, based on a serial robber named Jeffrey Manchester. An erstwhile American Army Reserve officer, Jeffrey Manchester faced conviction and did time in 2000. However, he escaped prison and evaded law enforcement for months at a toy store in North Carolina. He was captured again after leaving his fingerprints on a DVD of Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio's film Catch Me If You Can.

Roofman also stars Peter Dinklage, LaKeith Stanfield, Ben Mendelsohn, Juno Temple, Uzo Aduba, Melonie Diaz, Jimmy O Yang, and Lily Collias in supporting roles.

Roofman is slated for an October 10 release in theatres. Tatum's upcoming projects also include the Russo Brothers' Avengers: Doomsday, in which he will reprise Gambit, his Deadpool and Wolverine character.
