David Corenswet is all set to light up the screens as DC's iconic character Superman in a few days, but before soaring into the skies, the actor's preparation to get into the suit was a testing feat in itself.
Corenswet described it as an "intense experience" getting into the tights and trunks of his suit to play the role in James Gunn's upcoming film. In an interview with People, he said it was "quite snug" as the makers had custom made it to his measurements when he was 195 pounds. "When I walked in for my first costume fitting, I weighed about a 235, 240 pounds," he shared.
He further added, "You hear actors who play superheroes talking about squeezing into the suits. I got kind of claustrophobic in the suit the first time just being constricted in all those places at the same time." The actor also said the tight suit didn't have any zipper for him to use the bathroom.
Despite these constraints, Corenswet expressed his gratefulness for his costume designer Scott R Hankins for being his support system and noted that he was a "mob fixer". "He was always in my ear going, ‘Do you need a break? Do you need a break? Tell ’em you need a break and we can step you out," he said.
The trailer of the film offers a glimpse of the film's plot which, as per the official description, follows the titular character as he embarks on a journey to reconcile his past on Krypton with his upbringing as a human being named Clark Kent.
Alongside Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl.
Superman is the maiden production of DC Studios after Gunn and Peter Safran took over the company. The film is slated for a July 11, 2025, release in theatres.
